Chemical characterization and distribution of ABO blood group active glycoprotein in human erythrocyte membrane.

چکیده
Occurrence and distribution of glycoprotein H substances in blood type O human erythrocyte membrance were studied using an alpha N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase (A-enzyme) purified from milk of blood type A women. Erythrocytes of blood group O, nonsecretors and secretors alike, contain H substances that serve as a substrate for this transferase, and the H determinants seem to occur in all three erythrocyte membrane glycoproteins (periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)-1, PAS-2, and PAS-3). Structural studies of the A glycoproteins obtained by the transferase action, suggested that all erythrocyte H glycoproteins contain only type 2 antigenic determinant.

Inhibition of cholera toxin binding to membrane receptors by pig gastric mucin-derived glycopeptides: differential effect depending on the ABO blood group antigenic determinants.
The capacity of pig gastric mucin-derived glycopeptides to interfere with the binding of cholera toxin (CT) to membrane receptors was studied. Two types of glycopeptide preparations with or without human blood group A antigenic activity were assayed for comparison in a system in which the target for the toxin was rat erythrocyte ghosts. Blood group A-active glycopeptides (A+ glycopeptides) were...
متن کاملAssociation and Distribution of Hypertension, Obesity and ABO Blood groups in Blood Donors
Abstract Background Hypertension is a major health problem, especially because it has no clear symptoms. It is strongly correlated with modifiable risk factors such as adiposities, age, stress, high salt intake. Overweight and obesity is conveniently determined from BMI and visceral adiposity is determined by waist circumference. ABO blood group is one such factor which needs to be investiga...
متن کاملChemical characterization and surface orientation of the major glycoprotein of the human erythrocyte membrane.
The major glycoprotein of the human erythrocyte membrane has been isolated by treatment with lithium di-iodosalicylate and found to be a single polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of about 50,000. This molecule, which is 60% carbohydrate and 40% protein, carries multiple blood-group antigens, the receptors for influenza viruses, and various plant agglutinins. Four unique carbohydrate-cont...
متن کاملThe ABO Blood Group System and Plasmodium Infection in Iran: A Comprehensive Study
Background: Geographical distribution of ABO blood groups affects by race, ethnicity, migration and some infectious agents, such as Plasmodium species. P. falciparum is the major causative agent of death in malaria that can affect ABO blood group distribution in different populations. Therefore, the objective of the current study was to determine the effect of p. falciparum on ABO blood group d...

Background: The ABO blood group antigens play a role in thepathophysiology of some diseases and several researches haveinvestigated this relationship in the field of dermatology. In thepresent study, an attempt was made to find the distribution ofblood types in patients with pemphigus vulgaris and chronicplaque type psoriasis.Method: Fifty patients with chronic plaque type psoriasis, 50patients...
